San Francsico and Bay Area Music and Theater
The SF Bay has a rich and vaired music scene dating back to the jazz clubs of the 40's and 50's, the Summer of Love and hippy scene centered in Haight Ashbury and Golden Gate Park, the Thrash Metal scene of the 80's that spawned Metallica, Exodus and others, the varied hip-hop scene that spawned the likes of Paris, Mac Dre, E-40, the 70's funk heavyweights Sly and the Family Stone and Tower of Power, electronic and EDM artists like Tycho, Bassnectar, rock and pop royalty such as Journey, Pointer Sisters, Huey Lewis, Counting Crows and Jefferson Airplane, and punk icons Dead Kennedys, Rancid, NOFX and Green Day among others.
The city also has several historic theaters including the Golden Gate Theater, Orpheum Theater, SF Playhouse, American Conservatory Theater, and the New Conservatory Theater Centre.
